It's Just Corn Flakes

Dec 30, 2006  |   Filed under: Business  |   Tags: Business, Change

I have been off work for a couple of days now. I have spent my time doing mostly nothing. I finally got some time to catch up on my movie watching, game playing and sleeping. But before I went on vacation something big happened, to big to ignore. Our company Varchar AB was bought by Cybercom (official press release). I wrote a really long post about the merger but decided not to post it. The post contained my thoughts on the future of our company. But I have no hard facts yet, the deal just went through on the 22 of December and officially we don't become a part of Cybercom Group until 2 of January. So I don't know how it will affect us and I'm not brave enough to post my speculations on the Internet.

For me this is a chance to wind-down a notch. Ever since I started working at Varchar I have worked my ass off, first for our survival then for our growth. This merger feels like a major milestone in the history of Varchar. I don't know how this will affect my position within the company but I hope it will give me some more spare time. It's like that quote from Click about the cereal leprechaun ”He's always chasing the pot of gold, but when he gets there, at the end of the day, it's just corn flakes. ” So life is not about some ultimate goal, it's about the journey. So I hope this merger will allow me to take a step back, work less and live more, but that all remains to be seen. The fact is, as my girlfriend constantly states, that at the end of the day I will still be a workaholic.
